just enough coding to be dangerous
i haven't done any serious coding in over a decade. i must not count the kind of html/xhtml or css that i've done until recently as real coding. back in college i took most of a computer science major before i dropped it to be able to take more art classes. i used to know about coding, but that knowledge has atrophied over the years.
now i'm adapting zenphoto and zenpage to my website. i've had to learn a bit about php and apache's mod_rewrite to make the site behave the way i'd like it to. i suppose php isn't as intense as some other languages, but it does feel more like programming than web design projects i've done in the past. i now know just enough to be able to cause trouble.
while i don't foresee myself giving up art to go back to programming, i am seeing a glimmer of the things i enjoyed about it. i do like building things and seeing them go.
